How to monitor a competitor's website for changes without checking it by hand

Most teams start competitor monitoring with pricing, because it's the page that moves fastest and matters most obviously. But a competitor's product page, integrations page, and homepage positioning change just as often — and those changes are easier to miss, because there's no single number to notice like a price.

The pages worth watching beyond pricing

  • Product/features page — what moved from "coming soon" to shipped.
  • Integrations page — a new partner is often an early signal of where they're headed next.
  • Homepage headline and hero copy — messaging changes show how they're repositioning before a press release confirms it.
  • Changelog or release notes, if public — the most literal signal of what shipped and when.

Why manual checks miss most of it

Checking a handful of URLs weekly catches large changes and misses everything gradual — a feature that moved between tiers over three edits, a headline that shifted one word at a time. By the time the change is obvious enough to notice by eye, it's usually been live for weeks.

What a monitoring workflow actually needs

Three things, in order of how often teams skip them: a normalized snapshot on a schedule (so cosmetic markup churn doesn't count as a change), a diff against the last snapshot (so you see exactly what moved, not just that something did), and a stored before/after (so six months from now you can still show what the page said, not just remember it).

If you can't show what the page said before, you don't have evidence — you have a memory of a notification.

How RivalSweep does it

RivalSweep watches every page you approve — pricing, product, integrations, positioning, or general content — on a schedule per your plan, and classifies each real change into one of those categories automatically. Cosmetic and layout noise is filtered out before it ever reaches you; what's left rolls into a weekly briefing with the before/after evidence attached to every item, so nothing depends on someone having noticed a page look different.

Turn competitor changes into a weekly briefing.

RivalSweep watches public pricing, product and positioning pages and sends the changes that matter — with the before/after evidence attached.
